History of the Archives
*In 1976, the Thomas Woodward Chapter NSDAR was asked by the Fairfield Historical Society & the Historical Commission to establish an archives for historical records in the Cathcart - Ketchin building. Mrs. Joe K. Cathcart, Regent of the Thomas Woodward Chapter NSDAR, having accepted the responsibility for the chapter to establish the Genealogical Library & Historical Records Room on the second floor of the Cathcart - Ketchin building, appointed Mrs. Ruth Stevenson and a committee to organize & manage the room under the auspices of the DAR. The dedication of these rooms took place April 27, 1976. The DAR would be responsible for the establishment & management of the archives for the genealogical library & historical records pertaining to the history & heritage of Fairfield County.
*The John Bratton Chapter of the UDC donated their histories & records of the Confederate War to our collection.
*The Richard Winn Chapter of the DAR disbanded & donated their collection to our collection.
*Over the 29 years of operation in the Cathcart - Ketchin building the archives out grew the location. In 2003 Quay McMaster donated a building to the Thomas Woodward Chapter NSDAR for an archives & after 2 years of renovations the DAR dedicated the new building located at 113 N. Vanderhorst St. in Winnsboro, South Carolina on April 27, 2005.

We hope with our new location that we may better serve the public.
